In chapter 9 of 16 in his 2009 Capture Your Flag interview, “Start With Why” author and motivational speaker Simon Sinek offers his views on age, as a platform for making a positive difference and maximizing a lifetime’s impact. Measuring the estimated time left in the form. Sinek argues why it deserves consideration among so many life goals, legacy and inspirational modalities. Simon Sinek is a trained ethnographer who applies his curiosity to what people do to teach leaders and companies how to inspire people. He is the author of “Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action.” Sinek holds a BA degree in Cultural Anthropology from Brandeis University. Watch Near Peer career video insights from the Capture Your Flag documentary series here: http://www.captureyourflag.com/ Transcript: Eric Michaelson: When You Think About Your Long-Term Goals and How Your Age Relates to Those Long-Term Goals Yes, you have a different point of view. Simon Sinek: Right. When we start counting our ages, we count. It has made it into the belief that it is never going to end. It just goes up, up, up. There are statistical realities that you are about to die. You’re going to die at some statistically average age. If I stay in good shape and eat I’ll probably live to about 85. Until I’m about 75 or 80, I’ll be a productive member of society. So I don’t report age 35, I report it as 45. I have 45 years left to do something good in this world. I have 45 years left to achieve whatever I need to do in this world. So I count down a lot. It may sound depressing but it is the reality. The motivation is that it kicks me in the ass.
